Audition: [link] THE WILDCARD: MELVIN "You've stopped being funny. Stop not being funny." Team position: Fighter/comic relief/punching bag Combat style: Main offensive powerhouse. Fights with a mixture of quick strikes, taunts, and general mind-screwery. Doesn't think defensively. Theme: ‘Leitmotif of a Purple Kitty’ [link] (remix here): [link] Voice: Medium pitch, crazy vocal range. American accent. There’s a slight gurgling echo to his voice, but it’s only really noticeable if you listen for it. Personality: He’s a happy, enthusiastic, impish and emotional party animal who comes off as annoying to most strangers and newcomers. He loves messing around, making snarky comments and bad puns- whatever it takes to cheer you up if you’re glum. He also loves to screw with people’s minds to get a reaction out of them. Despite all that, befriend him and he’s a true loyal buddy who always watches your back and will stop at nothing to get sweet revenge. Or, you know, show off by beating everyone up in a flashy, cool way. Morality: Swings around between chaotic good and chaotic neutral. Mel likes being a hero if it means he gets to publically humiliate the bad guys. Doesn't care much for valour/honour. Likes: Pushing buttons and bending rules, rainy days, hugs, compliments, having someone to talk to. He’s a sucker for attention and flattery. Dislikes: Salt, sand, his companions being at risk, stubborn people who take themselves too seriously, rubber seals on doors and other cracks.
Strengths: Physical malleability and shapeshifting He’s an amorphous slime-blob capable of squishing himself into any shape you can think of: inanimate objects, people, animals, abstract art. He can roll into a sphere, stretch out like a mat, extend his arms and liquefy. He only mimics things, though (so if he turns into a dragon, he can’t breathe fire.) He can also manipulate how soft or hard his body is. In neutral human shape, he’s squishy enough for you to stick your hand through his chest (though he doesn't appreciate it.) He can also mimic people's voices, if the gurgle (or his attitude) doesn't give it away first. Invulnerability: He’s made of slime, and thus immune to any kind of physical attack including being impaled, decapitated, punched or clubbed, run over, sliced, shot, falling from great heights, compressed, stretched, and even explosions (if they’re not too big to evaporate him in one blast). Mel is at his strongest when submerged under fresh water. He doesn't have to worry about dehydration, and he’s a damn good swimmer who doesn't need to breathe.
Weaknesses: Non-physical damage: Although he’s immune to physical damage, he’s as susceptible to other attacks as any other human. His primary weakness is drying out; he needs to stay hydrated or he’ll dry out and melt back into his default shape. Dry him out completely and he can die. He hates salt, intense sunlight and heat for this reason. Though he can’t be burned by fire, the heat will evaporate away the water in his body. Laser-based weapons and electricity will also hurt him pretty badly, particularly the latter which can conduct through water and hit him on his own turf. Owch. Biological restrictions: Mel also has a delicate chemical balance. He can only drink water for sustenance. Substances like paint, solvents, household cleaner and alcohol will be quickly absorbed by his body and poison him. He knows a lot about chemistry, but that’s not enough to save him- to stop poisoning, he has to stay underwater and filter out any contaminants. This pretty much boils down to two things: a) If you can’t figure out a way to hurt him, you’re screwed. b) If you can figure out a way to hurt him, he’s screwed.
Thoughts on: Llama: Though he’s initially sceptical about her claim as his ‘creator’, he thinks she’s harmless enough. Knowing that Llama has full knowledge of his life and backstory makes him uncomfortable, but he’s willing to let her do her thing as long as she keeps her lips zipped. Rick: He sees Rick as some kind of adorable, too-serious-for-his-own-good kid brother. He’s a perfect candidate for Mel’s snarky antics. Mel knows a good deal about robots (he goes to work with one), so he’s usually pestering him about that. He thinks Rick should relax every once in a while, but like any big-brother figure, attacking Rick in Mel's presence is usually not a good idea. Nebula: Some kind of creepy homunculus-thing, maybe? He really has no idea what to do with her, but he knows it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on her at all times. Maybe slip in a tease or two, but keeping enough distance so that he can make a hasty retreat should things get ugly. Art and Character (c) Llamadoodle
-wobbles- Indeed! I'm made of jello myself. I'm not immune to physical attacks, but I am silly, and I can turn others into various kinds of desserts! -tries to turn Melvin into a lime flavored jello version of himself-
Haha, this guy is funny, but the tiny blob size is adorable. X3 I wonder how he'll find water in the Real, though....must depend on the creativity of the artists, huh? XD
Very awesome designs so far! Nebula's ability for space-time wharping is somewhat common in AATR, HOWEVER, it will be veeerryyy interesting seeing your character (I love her huge arm-claws, by the way) and others' interact with that ability! :3 I'm also curious how you'll develop the idea that she's somehow linked to the Real.
And lastly; Roderick is very interesting as well. I'm looking forward to seeing him run 'calculations' on your competition's characters. XD And always sleepy, that's very amusing. XD
God help Mel if he ever runs into a water elemental. Dude's like 98% water. Walking puppet, anyone? Funnily enough, I'm wondering how Nebula would use her claws for more mundane tasks. How will she use a teacup? And Rick's 'calculations' thing. He relies on it a lot, but he dislikes how it makes him look less like a person and more like a number-cruncher. Oh, the drama.
I love your characters, too! Humeric being a chipper skeleton is a really nice idea, and Floff is one giant ball of 'HUG ME I'M CUTE.' And Corrugon is... Corrugon. I can imagine him grumbling in the morning with a cup of cold coffee. Oh good grief, that situation combined with his hulking appearance is the strangest thing I've thought of all day.
It's a tournament where you draw yourself + 3 of your OCs fighting other artists and their OCs! I need to finish my entry audition, and post two more character ref sheets (on of them being about myself... )
