You examine the opened envelope. The contents are still inside!

The letter inside is written in a very messy scrawl. You can't even tell what some of the letters are supposed to look like (is that an 'M' or a 'T'?), but you eventually manage to read it through. It says:

Rita Dearest-

I'm afraid that this is the day I must take my leave. I know how you must feel, knowing that I must leave you two behind- possibly never to see each other again. But whatever you do, don't cry. Don't worry- I'll always be watching over you, sweetie... in one way or another.
We all knew that this day would be inevitable, given our unfortunate situation. But I know you- you're able to smile at even the darkest of times, and I know that both of you will be able to make it though towards the light at the end of the tunnel.
...I haven't told your mother yet, though. Well, we both know what she's like. I trust you to break it to her as gently as possible. He'll be in safe hands, I promise. Cross my heart.
I'll miss you dearly, Rita. The way you laughed, the way you wrote poems and riddles with me... I will never forget you, sweetheart.

May fate and smile down upon you.
